Bengt Lindström 1925 -
2008
Lindström was born and raised in Härjedalen,
Sweden. 1944
he moved to Stockholm and begun his artistic
studies at Isaac
Grünewalds paint school. He came to study in
Copenhagen and Chicago. In 1948 he moved to Paris
and begun to study at André Lhotes and Fernand Légers
paint schools. The summers he spent in Sweden,
Sundsvall were he also had a studio, just outside
of town. 2004 Bengt Lindström came to settle
in Sundsvall permanently.
1954 Lindström had his first singel exhibition in
Sweden. His international breakthrough came first
after an exhibition in Paris in 1958.
Lindström was very productive and created mostly
oil paintings which are easily recognised though
their sharp colour in thick layers. The motives
often portraites twisted faces and bodies,
Lindström liked to portrait humans as natural and
human as possible without any glorification.
He also made several puplic art works such as
mural paintings and large out door sculptures. One
of these sculptures are the large Y at Midlanda,
Sweden. His largest singel art work is the silo
painting at Åbyverket in Örebro.
Exhibitions
To name all the exhibitions with Lindström are a
days work and takes to much space to be listed here.
Lindstrom had his first exhibitions 1954 in
Stockholm. His career soon picked up pace and
between 1958 and 1969 he had several exhibitions in
Sweden, France and Germany. In 1970
Lindström showed his art work in different galleries
all over Europe. 1979 his artwork crossed the
Atlantic ocean and he had several exhibitions in
Canada and USA. Ever since, Lindström has been a
constantly returning artist for exhibitions in
Europe and North America.
